Wow, I just watched the Russia one compared to the US. The first observation I'd like to make here is how Emma the American soldier had to be transformed into a cartoon. That's what the armed forces are to the salary class: a cartoon. Emma is a woke caricature of a person. If she ever sees real battle, her mind will snap like a dry twig.

In other news, I just earned a 7 day Facebook jail sentence for saying the salary class are jealous of struggling musicians like myself because we didn't sell our souls for material perks. Not that they needed a reason to censor me, but I guess I'm a bully now for using the word "Plandemic" and pointing out the monumental insecurity of the bully elites and their pawns.

I hope that happens for you soon! When I went around to all of the area humane societies to eventually adopt Ash (the gray cat) every single one suggested I adopt two cats. When Kiki was alive, I would often feel guilty because she was so overly attached to me and I had to be out at work all day. Had I figured it out while she was younger, I would have gotten her a brother or a sister while she was young. Shadow is super-high energy and Ash is a good match for him. Plus they love each other and entertain each other when I'm not around. Ash is slightly larger and can put the hurt on Shadow when he gets too rough. I also don't trim Ash's back claws, but I do trim all four of Shadow's claws so that way Ash has further advantage if he needs it.

Thank you! The boxy part on the left is actually four stories of kitty cubbyholes, each with its own heater. They also have a heated bowl of water at all times. The cubbyhole on top has an escape hatch.

Thank you! Cedric is very well. He is getting taller. He put on a couple of feet in the last couple of years. I said goodbye to his mom on the last day I was at the Studio.

Cancel culture

One of the oddities of the last few years has been the rise of the term cancel culture and its being treated as something new. I say oddity because when I look back at some of the translations I have done over the past decade, I find that a number of them had cancel culture as a major theme. The thing is that these were translations of novels written in Imperial Germany between about 1895 and 1914. One of the more amusing ones to me was a novel which anticipated Fukuyama's end of history thesis with a main character who is a professor who gets cancelled for writing a book arguing that democracy was the new religion and would do what Christianity had failed to do in ending all wars (Georg Engel's The Standard Bearer). Another covering the period around 1848 and afterwards indicates that the equivalent slur to 'Nazi' back then was 'Social Democrat' (yes, really).

A non-fiction work I've been translating (from around 1919) also discussed the intolerance of the period of the Protestant Reformation and the Counter Reformation. It all makes me wonder if there ever was a time when cancel culture didn't have a major place in society (of course, your position in society may affect your exposure to it, and so is my increased awareness of it just a reflection of where I stand?).

Good points. I suppose the old cancel culture took the form of witch trials. If you wanted to cancel someone, accusing them of witchcraft like the nuns of Loudon did to Urban Grandier would not have been a bad idea.

More seriously, she's nearly 82. She's less demented than Biden, but not by much. She reminds me of Ruth Bader Ginsberg right before the end -- falling asleep at the podium. Like Kackles Kamala, Pelosi has clearly been trained from a young age to smile and look happy whenever she is faced with adversity. Now that she's well into senility, her programming kicks in and goes haywire every now and then. She is probably on stimulants and psychotropics to keep her alert, like Joe Biden. When I was involved in caring for my friend's elderly mother, I had to portion out her vast array of drugs for each day of the week. Her quack allopathic physician had her on ten different drugs plus supplements. One of them was Ritalin. She was on a couple of other psychotropics and I am convinced that somebody either at the pharmacy or with the in-home nurses was stealing them. They are easily abused and can be re-sold at a high price. My friend's mother often had reactions to the pills. They made her alternately foggy and depressed and it was clear she was addicted to them.

Hey Kimberly -

I've been seeing on the Ecosophia sites your posts about your Speakeasy group. I'm wondering if you have anything going on with alternative venues for music, theatre, and other arts? I'm a pianist in the Seattle area (for now), and I've lost 2/3 of my income due to being unwilling to go along with the medical restrictions, so I'm looking for ideas on how to get something going under the radar or places to move to where I don't have to worry about restrictions.

Oh my, that's got to be awful. I don't consider myself the same calibre as you as a stage pianist -- composition, arranging, and teaching were always more my speed. They're far less scary and demanding than performing. I'm OK singing in public but my stage presence leaves much to be desired. Even if I was a better performer, there is no performance scene these days, and it was rough trying to make a living in Chicago doing music before the Plandemic. So many of my musician and actor friends have fallen on hard times and cannot support themselves. I'm not even having an easy time getting new students. I suspect that I'm being snubbed because I'm fairly open about being unvaccinated.

Vaccinated or not, it's horrible out there for performing musicians right now. A friend of mine from musical college is drinking himself to death. He has two children.

If I had a large enough house, I would host house concerts for solo musicians and small bands. Basically you go around on mini-tours around the suburbs and small, intimate audiences flock around you in private houses. Kind of like a cooking circle but for performing musicians.
Everyone who attends pays a modest fee and it all goes to the musician. If there's any way you can appeal to a wealthy patron of the arts in your area to do house concerts, I honestly think that would be your best bet.

If you see Seattle as being worth fighting for, you should check out "http (colon-slash-slash) wcrc (dot) us" as they had success turning Boeing around and dropping vax mandates for its employees. It includes people who went around to all the local businesses and offered them information that helped them to know they didn't have to enforce anything, and a number of businesses took that to heart and flouted the mandates the entire time.

It's about the closest you'll find to a Seattle based speakeasy.
