I have had a lot of experience with hypnogogic states, for better or for worse. For reasons I'd rather not go into detail about on this post, along with my daily Sphere of Protection, I do other things to avoid hypnogogia.

On the natural magic front, I have found that putting a geometric symbol near the bed is a huge deterrent to entities who would otherwise feel free to mess with me. I'll be explaining exactly why & how I believe these symbols work in my upcoming book Sacred Homemaking, but for now, the short version is they act as spirit traps. Placed near the sleeper, they draw in the entity (that wants to mess with the sleeper during hypnogogia or night terrors) on the astral plane and lock them in an unending pattern.

Similar images to the ones below are available for free at Canva.com. If you'd rather not go through the trouble, I have made a PDF with some good sacred geometry glyphs HERE. Print the glyph/glyphs you like the best and either stick it on the wall or place it on the bedside table near where you sleep.

Here you can see the round demon trap I have put by my own bed, printed on computer paper and made in Canva.com in only a few minutes:

Here are the symbols -- again these are just random free ones from Canva. You could always draw your own or find other geometric symbols, these are not the end all and be all! Time to dig out the old Spirograph, right? I am considering having my husband put up a geometric wallpaper across the headboard wall!

Thanks, Kimberly. My partner has disturbing dreams and I'll print one of these out for the wall.

Wow thanks so much for these!!! As someone who occasionally gets 'bugged' at night by unsavory astral passerbys, I will certainly give these a try. Vinegar usually keeps them at bay but not always. Maybe adding this in will greatly fortify my bedside defenses.

Yeah that sounds about right. IIRC from several of JMG's replies on this topic, what the vinegar does is make it difficult for these entities to operate on the etheric level, i.e. project vital force in your general direction while you're asleep. The vinegar doesn't stop them astrally, which is what the geometric printouts should be effective at doing.

I will let you know after I give this a try and some time has elapsed.

Is it a problem to colour them in?

[Unknown site tag] has also been writing about powerful geometries (and how to create your own). I love all the cross pollinating and synchronicities :)

Your theory affords some explanation to dream-catchers too. Very cool.

Synchronicity for me because as I was waking up this morning I was thinking about hypnogogic states. I have a dreamcatcher that I made using wisteria vine, hanging above my bed. Thanks for reminding me about the protective properties of the Ojo de Dios too.

I think that top one works on me. Fortunately not too well, or I'd still be trapped in the ambiguous ceaselessly-inverting cubes and be unable to post this comment.

I used to use a labyrinth pattern for similar purposes. I thought of it more as a barrier than a trap, but there might be little or no real difference there. (I don't use it currently because in my present environs I don't seem to need it.)

Off topic, but Walt, if you haven't checked in on JMG's main blog in the last day or two, please consider popping in. Patricia Mathews was asking if anyone had heard from you lately. :)

(Reposted to try to line up under the right thread section, sorry Kimberly)

I love these things, but hesitate to put them anywhere visible in my home because frankly, *I* get trapped. It was such a relief when wallpaper went out of fashion. I remember as a kid often getting lost in wallpaper patterns in friends' and relatives' houses. Sigh. It's not so bad if the colors used are very low-contrast.

How much difference do you think brightness (say, pastel/pastel v. black/white) and placement (under the bed, behind the furniture, v. on the wall) make? Any idea?

The house I grew up in had typical forties textured plaster. My siblings and I all came to the independent conclusion that the shape over the bed was a giraffe.

But yeah, I do that with stucco, too. The pattern-recognition part of my brain is always turned up to 11.

I ain't complaining, mind-- there are a variety of things that trait is very handy for.

I'd love to hire a music coach, but I need one who's well-versed in Byzantine chant, and there's nobody for hundreds of miles :/ I've been bootstrapping my way through it for four years now and while the pattern thing is extremely helpful and has got me through reams of brute-force memorization and into basic sight-reading competency, it doesn't substitute for vocal coaching, ear training (you're in a position to know!) or someone who can explain the theory!

I'm really wondering if quilt patterns could have a similar trap effect, or if that's something intrinsic to the drawn form of these patterns?

Thank you for the file link. I have one simple hexafoil up (which we discussed after one of your readings), but I really like how you have a framed one in your room. I'm also starting to consider how they might be incorporated into door and window frames as a matter of course...

Kimberly, I'm glad that you mentioned this again!
For awhile now my latest craft obsession has been making dot mandalas that are also geometric and colorful along with being very addicting and relaxing.
I'll post a link to a basic tutorial.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gyiiXhNJF-g
I started off easy and have since stepped up to more complicated stuff on different surfaces.
The initial investment for someone could be minimal. For instance you could pick up a color co-ordinated craft paint set at walmart for 10$ and use all kinds of things to make dots. There's also reasonable tool kits for sale on Amazon that include basic stencils and if you have a Harbor freight tool store nearby you could get cheap punch sets in a multitude of sizes and use the blunt ends. Drill bits would work, too along with dowels, pencils, whatever has a round blunt end.
And thanks for the patterns, they are always good for ideas!

Marriage basket.

I have hung a Hopi Marriage Basket at the head of my bed to keep nightmares and entities away. It’s been there for over ten years.

I also have one in my treatment room to help keep it clear of entities.

They are round and patterned geometrically.

This post is reminding me I need to clean them! I’ll bet cleaning them will help them do their job better.

I was taught to put it above my bed to contain and channel my nightmares away from me. I was also taught to use them as a way to ground solar plexus energy into the earth during healing work. They are a tool of the feminine, a way to rebirth oneself and release sticky, dark stuff from one’s psyche. They are also a container, a womb for the self.

If I knew how, I’d put photos of my two baskets on this site.

Can someone coach me?

This is a very interesting idea, and I'm going to try it, thanks Kimberly. I happen to have a geometric hand-drawn design (framed in a metallic-colored frame, no less) sitting on my desk for ages, and I was wondering where I should hang it. Now I know!

I too have tried the vinegar bowl by the bed thing, and it helps. But then I switched to putting a protective crystal by the bed: Amethyst is nice.

By the way -- I believe the second geometric design that you posted is the sri yantra from the Indian religious tradition. It's supposed to be the most sacred and powerful yantra, so I'm sure that hanging that over your bed would be very protective indeed!

After you wake up in the morning, how do you "clean the trap" as it were?

If there is something stuck in the pattern then what do you do with the pattern the next morning?

Hi! I have written instructions for creating a chainmail hexafoil. I would like to link to some articles that explain what hexafoils are and what they can be used for. May I have your permission to link to this article?

You can view my article here https://randomactsofkarmasc.dreamwidth.org/314.html (and I also have it posted here https://randomactsofkarmasc.com/helm-flower/).

Thanks for considering!

Kimberly,

I clicked on the link at the top of this post but my browser said "not found". Do you have another link? I've been having a fair amount of trouble with people or entities disturbing my sleep. Some of it is weird. If this helped I'd be very grateful.
