Date: 2021-02-13 05:23 pm (UTC)She wasn't due to get another vial for at least a few weeks as I recall. Being out of town (and out of state over a weekend) we were far away from our regular pharmacy. Luckily, I was able to secure the crack and seal the vial well enough to last the weekend. Cash replacement, if we could get a hold of the prescribing physician on a Sunday was going to be about $250 to $300 for the one vial. Would we pay it? You bet. She can't live without it.
That night I found insulin vial cozies online. They insulate and protect from falls! A must have, cheap insurance.
The history of insulin is worth looking up. Discovered and developed in Canada it was intended to be cheaply available and a gift to humanity. Worthy of the Nobel prize awarded to the researchers.
More recent insulin developments out of Canada:

Note the dates on the articles. Sounds extremely promising, 10+ years ago! The entire world's supply could be produced on a relatively small amount of agricultural land. Yet, the price of insulin in the US has skyrocketed in recent years.
The pharmaceutical industry? Well sigh nothing but profanity for them.

And yeah, ditto on the pharmaceutical industry. Any essay I write on that may end up a dissertation.
