Yesterday was the five year anniversary of the creation of a group I co-founded called Speakeasy Illinois that battled the Coronatarian mask and vaccine mandates by going around them. My co-founder Katheryn, a Catholic stay at home mother of 5 children, could not have been more different than me, despite being a fellow Chicago suburbanite. For one, she has 5 children. I have 6 cats, having reneged on any perceived childbearing duties in this incarnation by obtaining a tubal ligation in my early 30s to ensure I would not ever procreate. We became friends nevertheless, sharing a love of music and singing. (She happens to be a phenomenal singer.)
We met each other on Facebook, that problematic, ridiculous, increasingly irrelevant platform that now only plays host to geriatric Boomers, Gen X, and some elder Millennials who are not able to figure out TikTok or its Facebook-owned competition, Instagram. Despite our ardent desire to host the group on a less censorship-riddled platform, it became abundantly clear that Facebook was where our core constituency lived. So Facebook it was.
It was only thanks to Katheryn that the group did not descend into the same controversies and subsequent bans by Facebook that other groups suffered around the same time. Katheryn had to constantly remind me and my fiery leonine temper that the group's mission was to go around the mandates and support the good people instead of hating the bad people and complaining about them. It also helped that at the time that I was part of an online book club discussing Christian occultist and Order of the Golden Dawn initiate Dion Fortune's seminal work The Cosmic Doctrine, and that I had internalized many of the book's teachings about indirectly fighting enemies by building yourself into a pillar of strength that could easily overcome them. Katheryn not only bravely battled infiltrators -- a skill most likely honed from raising kids in a hostile environment where everyone and their uncle wants to eat them alive -- she also came up with genius ways of beating Facebook censors at their own game. We were at literal war with Facebook, which constantly flagged our group and threatened to get it shut down for reasons I will explain later. She came up with fake out words in order to talk about the virus, combed posts for content and replies that could get the group shut down and deleted them, and patiently explained to countless group members why we had to play along to some degree with Facebook's asinine rules.
The mission of Speakeasy Illinois was and still is to ignore the stupidity of mask and vaccine mandates as much as possible while going around the stupid and misled people. The lessons of the Cosmic Doctrine instilled in me the discipline of laser-focusing on the good. The opening chapters of the Cosmic Doctrine instruct the reader to reframe and reconsider the concept of evil. Fundamentalist idiots will jump to the conclusion that Fortune is just another solipsist saying evil is relative for her own benefit. They will not realize that Fortune and her small band of like-minded occultists were the only force that stood between Hitler and the rest of the free world and without her, we might all be speaking German in the present day. Fortune lived during World War II. Long before anyone else, she figured out Nazis were using dark occult and magical means to topple their opposition both on and off the battlefield. Instead of organizing a league of spies or suicide bombers, she instructed her Fraternity of the Inner Light to create consistent, positive thoughtforms of hope and morale while courting divine influence. This hope and morale was then transferred to a badly-beaten and suffering England. A crude understanding of this would be an intense prayer circle that was both local and remote to support the Allied side, specifically that part of the Allies that came from England. Years went by and the Nazi sweep was reversed, and at the end the Nazis made the monumentally hubristic decision to invade Russia. Was Dion Fortune and her Fraternity of the Inner Light part of what influenced that bad decision? Perhaps. Or were all her efforts just brain farts into thin air? I tend to think it is the first one.
In the Cosmic Doctrine, Fortune states to conceive evil as:
- That which enables you to lock up the forces of good by opposition, and so secure stability—a foothold; evil enables you to get a purchase on space.
- Evil, if allowed to function unopposed, is the Scavenger of the Gods. Therefore, said a Great One, "Resist not evil." When you resist evil you lock up good, you lock up the force of good which holds the evil inert. This serves no useful purpose, unless you have a superabundance of good which shall stand upon the platform thus formed and leap up from it to greater heights. Therefore, it is not enough to meet hate with love—evil with good: this is the course of the ignorant, and the reason why exoteric religion has made so little impression in the world. You must meet hate with hate sufficiently to cause a locking-up of the force. You must hate the hate, and, having rendered evil inert by opposition, the love can take its stand upon the firm platform and use it as a thrust-block.
Let's analyze the first point she makes. Evil is the opposing force or opposite polar energy. Good is the force you wish to see conquer. So in the case of the evil villain of a fairy tale, that villain's version of "good" is the rule of the entire world and enslavement of its peoples. By attacking the ones he hates and wants to enslave and forcing them to defend themselves, he gains strength and power. The more he can force them into action, the more he can distract and weaken them, diverting them from both their normal lives and any aspirations they may have had. The "good" of the vaccine and mask mandates relied upon the deliberate antagonism of those who "evilly" opposed them. When the evil anti-mask and anti-vaccine crowd member objected to being called Typhoid Mary, the goal was to urge them into action so it could be labeled as violence and so the Coronatarian could appear more virtuous and saintly in comparison while persecuting "evil".
The second point, where she calls evil a scavenger, means that opposition of anything tends to take on a life of its own. Hatred acts like a drug, and when you hate your enemy, if you're insightful, you will admit to yourself that it feels kind of good to hate the person opposing you.
The denial and retreat from antagonism does not work any better according to Dion Fortune. To meet hate with love and New Age, sparkly hippie unicorn farts is also a bad idea and is akin to bringing a bouquet of roses to a gun fight. You are not going to move anyone's opinion; you are simply going to get yourself and your flowers shot full of bullet holes.
Katheryn seemed to know the above points instinctively, and it is my belief that it is because she is truly Christian and not the fake kind that cowers and retreats into sanctimony and luxury when the going gets tough. I knew them from the Cosmic Doctrine, and I believe Dion Fortune knew them because they are the spirit of Christianity. Despite the fact I am very much not a Christian, I would very much like to see the kind of brave, forthright, decent Christianity that Fortune espoused become the norm.
The group grew and grew during the Covidiot years of 2021-2023. Only in 2024 did it truly start slowing down because almost nobody was wearing masks anymore and the hypocrisy and dangerousness of the vaccines was well-exposed. Facebook and its censors stopped counting the addition of new members sometime in late 2022 when we were at 6000. I would add a hundred members and Facebook would report the same number week after week. It was clear they were afraid of us. I estimate at its height, Speakeasy Illinois had around 10,000 members.
The posts promoted in the group were and are of a strictly limited sort: promotion and information about restaurants, schools, doctor's offices, theaters, libraries, recreational activities, and small business services that did not require or enforce a mask or vaccine papers. Facebook hated our group because its work was devastatingly effective. Instead of organizing quasi-political protests outside of restaurants where plastic booths had been set up outside in a farce of combatting the virus, my group's members avoided those joints altogether and went to restaurants where you could eat indoors like a normal human being. Even this tiny rebellion added up to an exponential force, and Facebook recognized this. They would flag our group for hate speech for even one instance of politically-charged words such as "vaccine", "mrna", "mask", or even "jab". Facebook wanted to trick us into ruining ourselves via our own worst tendencies of anger and greed as is typical of the dark magic of the elite System. We did not fall for it and it drove them absolutely batty.
Several members of the group stepped up and became admins, volunteering their own valuable time to filter out flakes and to keep the group on point. More than one member devoted time to helping people get vaccine exemptions for religious or other purposes. Several members founded private homeschools and co-ops to handle the huge out-migration from public schools as public school children languished because of Zoom "school" and insane mask policies when they were finally allowed back into the classroom. The group remains a haven for finding home schooling and alternative medicine.
Speakeasy Illinois led the way for other groups to promote the message of supporting what you want to see in the world instead of strengthening evil by playing into its persecution narrative. A group called Rebel Diners popped up where the sole mission was to bring small crowds of diners into mask and vaccine optional restaurants and then massively tip the servers. Rebel Diners kept many restaurants from going under at a time when that already cut-throat model of business was being wholesale sent to the slaughterhouse.
It's hard to believe that only five years ago, globalist, misanthropic creeps Klaus Schwab, Yuval Noah Harari, Bill Gates, and American Dr. Mengele Anthony Fauci nearly got the entire world to surrender in spirit and body to fraud. I have written many times on what I believe the spiritual consequences of the vaccine might be; I won't go into that here. Because so many opted in and did not fight, the ghosts of Stalin, Mao, and national socialism descended upon my corner of the world, showing me a living example of fascism -- the unholy union of government and corporations to enforce corporate will. I will not forget that lesson anytime soon.
Without Speakeasy Illinois and groups like it, I believe Illinois would have quickly become what New York and California became: leftist ghettoes of misery and authoritarian rule. We certainly had the right governor, J.B. Pritzker, a self-appointed king of grift who has designs on becoming the next president. Though it would have been much easier and more fun to throttle the fat man and eliminate his palace guards with deadly space age drone technology, we knew that even if we had such toys and knew how to use them, there would only be another dictator in his place before the tag was on his toe in the morgue.
We chose a better strategy. We knew Pritzker and his goons could not police every restaurant, grocery store, school, and holiday gathering for its maskless and vaccine-less people, especially not while he was enjoying mask and vaccine free life at his 12 million dollar Floridian equestrian estate. The more we normalized not caving into what was billed as the New Normal, the less normal the New Normal was able to become.
I have made more mistakes than victories in this short life, but I am proud to say that Speakeasy Illinois was not one of them. If anything similar to Coronafascism ever returns, I will be ready and I know there will be plenty who will join me.
