As I have mentioned, I believe we are seeing the demise of wokeness and its demotion to cringe status.  Woke, which reigned supreme from approximately 2014 - 2023, took a nosedive when average people realized they could fight it by not allowing it to have their money.  Bud Light may recover from becoming a laughingstock, Target may nix its Satan-worshipping designers, and boys’ bathrooms may still have tampons (at least in Illinois), but it is clear that wokeness is going the way of the Tide Pod challenge and Tamagotchis.  Follow stupid trends, win stupid prizes, including death.  Woke has claimed its fair share of victims in its short rule, whether it was via the genital mutilations commonly known as bottom surgeries or the now-extinct careers of pop stars who virtue signaled one too many times.

Now that the fever is ebbing, I think it is time we started walking things back.

Language: Words We Were Not Allowed to Say

One way the Woke tried to cow the masses to their toxic astral pyramids was by commandeering language.  I will never forget when a vegan former friend tried to rain hellfire and brimstone on me for defending the word ritardando as it is used in music.  First of all, ritardando is not an English word.  Like many music terms, it is Italian.  Ritardando or (clutches pearls) ritard for short means to slow down the tempo or beats per minute.  The opposite of this term is accelerando, which of course means to speed up the tempo of beats per minute.   She actually tried to get me to stop using the word ritard in a strictly musical context!  Now look what she's done...

I think it is time to bring back the term “retarded”.  Retard is not malicious.  Like its musical counterpart, it means to slow down.  When a person is retarded, it does not peg them with a diagnosis; it only means that they learn slower than the general pool of people surrounding them.  For instance, I am retarded when it comes to learning how to dance.  I become easily confused when trying to put simple dance steps together in a series and I don’t move my torso, legs, or hips as easily as I move my fingertips and wrists.  I don’t even take issue with being called a retard; because each of us is special in our own way.  Do you see what I did there?  The facts on the ground are that WE ARE ALL RETARDS.  He or she who is not retarded should cast the first slur.

Also, I usually try to be more polite these days, but if I’m feeling crabby, I may just openly mock someone who wants me to use pronouns.  The whole pronoun thing pisses me off — the English language is hard enough without adding an additional layer of fantasy claptrap to confuse ESL learners, the elderly, and the kindhearted.  Any person who defines their pronouns and expects me to adjust my speech will heretofore be addressed as “it”, as in “It puts the lotion on its skin or else it gets the hose again.”

I will no longer recognize the term “people of color” as a sensible utterance and will correct the person by saying “Oh, you mean non-white people?  How do you know their DNA by looking at them?”  Back in the civil rights era, the word “colored” was actually quite vicious and used to segregate the non-white people to the back of the bus and a special, separate drinking fountain or bathroom.   Person of color is just another word for colored and its use is disgusting; most times there is the clandestine hope that white people will be forced to the back of the bus or shamed as revenge.  As someone who often passes for white, I enjoy informing racists who presume I am white that I am exactly as white as Barack Obama.

Oppression

If you want to send a wokester into a tailspin, ask them which side of the Israel/Palestine divide they are on and how they reconcile the atrocities.  No matter what side they are on, they are going to be confronted with the Jewish question and torn apart by trying to be two things at once.  Jewish Americans were the OG wokesters, and their money funded the media that put Woke on the map in the first place.  Nobody does white guilt better than the Jewish, amirite?  Wokesters tend to find out the hard way that money is super-important and that they don’t get along too well without it, just ask all those Ivy League graduates who are blacklisted from cushy positions in big companies because they went militant pro-Palestine last year.

As ugly as it may get, I am going to start calling wokesters sexists and racists and call ‘em as I see ‘em.  Racism against white people is still racism and I am tired of it.  Another thing they don’t get to do anymore is to pretend that anti-white racism is nastier than anti-black or anti-Asian racism.  Nobody gets a free pass because they hate whitey instead of blackie, Apu, or Charlie Chan.  As someone who is half-white and half-Asian, I know what anti-white and anti-Asian racism looks like from up close.  I have even been discriminated against because I was too yellow for the white people and too white for the yellow people.  You seriously cannot win, even if you have an extremely heterozygous genetic makeup, so don’t bother playing.

I am not great at telling jokes, but I think it is time we started poking fun at each other again.  I don’t care if non-black people (though once again, how do I know their DNA?) use the N-word.  I hate that word, so I am not going to use it, but you do you. I have no problem with the lampooning of either of my races — white and yellow.  I am fine if someone wants to chuckle about Japanese kamikazes or inbred Pennsylvania crackers right in front of me.  It’s time to recognize the humor in The Jerk — Steve Martin’s opening line is “I was born a poor black child” and it is hysterically funny.  If you can get through the Thousand Miles Latrell scene of 2004’s White Chicks without so much as cracking a smile, I salute you, because I cannot do it.  It’s time to make Lisa Lampanelli great again.

Those who cannot take it should not dish it, and the Woke have been serving us all unwanted helpings for a decade.  Want control?  Do Kegels.  Oppressed?  Grow up.  Offended?  Too bad.  As Candace Owens wisely said, “Life is tough, get a helmet”.

I sure hope you're right, but over here (Germany), it doesn't look like Wokeism is dying, sigh...

Yeah. Aging has been helpful in that I've become less socially retarded, but also in that I care less about other people's opinions and am able to be more selective in the company I keep.

“I was born a poor black child” is one of the all time greatest opening lines for a comedy. I've used it a few times when meeting someone new only to get blank stares. But then I have an, um, eclectic sense of humor.
I've never played the "guess my pronouns" game either. That and Covidmania pushed me into early retirement. I don't miss it all even one little bit.

Don't forget Blazing Saddles! Also anything by Monty Python. I'm surprised I didn't laugh myself to death in high school. What pops into my head from Airplane! is Barbara Billingsley speaking jive. Would that go down in today's world?

The New York Times published an article about detransitioners. I agree, the tide is really turning now!

Humor! We sure do need it.

Thanks for the laughs, Kimberly! My late brother was, among other things, mentally retarded. I had a front row seat as he grew up, and watched as the acceptable term for his condition changed over and over. The condition never did, of course.

We twist ourselves into ridiculous pretzel shapes thinking renaming reality will somehow change it.

As I was checking in for a medical appointment yesterday, the young clerk handed me a form and said that not only does it want to know "race", it wants to know where my ancestors came from. "White Lady" just does not cut it anymore. We both rolled our eyeballs. Called it ridiculous. And I refused to participate in such silliness.

Social retard here, of the nerditis variety.

My beef with BLM and Woke is the hypocrisy of them. How many black people's cars did BLM burn? (We know they burnt a lot of black-owned businesses, as well as other businesses the black people needed in their daily lives.) "We are here to riot in solidarity with you, by burning down your stuff" seemed to be their slogan. I wonder if the timing of these riots "coinciding" with Blexit really was coincidence?

The wokeys are also perfectly happy to discriminate against females, sabotaging girls' sports (and state records, and scholarships!) with boys dressed in drag. A category of people who have been discriminated against for millenia are now classed as "villains" ("cis") because we were born into that category and have had to walk that walk all of our lives.

They are not-so-crypto racists and not-so-crypto sexists. Race-hustlers and sex-hustlers all.

The corporation that recently bought my company is pretending to be woke. My company never made a big deal about diversity, they just cast their net really wide, looked for the best candidates for each job, and as a result it's been one of the most diverse, highly-skilled workplaces I've worked in. OTOH this new company sends out a weekly "DEI Newsletter", including recently a set of instructions about pronouns for our signature blocks. (I swear if they mandate it I'm going to sign up as an 'it'.) They have also been sending out announcements for the past year every time they hire someone in one of the top offices-- a VP, CFO etc-- and the other day I totted them all up. 21 men, 6 women-- and 3 of the women in HR. Very few names that sound anything other than WASP-y. Methinks they doth protest too much about DEI.

When in the Army years ago, at one of my physicals I had to fill out a form that asked me for my 'Race'. In the 'Other' blank I put, 'Human'. The doctor came out and with barely-suppressed amusement said 'we appreciate the sentiment, but regulations say you need to fill out an actual race.' Oh, well.

My pet theory about BLM is that they were funded and directed by real-estate investors. None of it made sense as a social movement-- but as a way to scoop up amazing deals on urban business-district properties? It works, I think.

A good number of the businesses that burned in the Minneapolis riots were owned by African immigrants. Local news zombies worked overtime to convince us that white supremacists from out of state were to blame (sadly, some of my wokie friends still believe it), but it's no secret that the Africans despise gangster culture and are contemptuous of the whole "we're oppressed, give us handouts" grift. So, of course, the Americans hate the Africans for succeeding while black.

I found this video about a possible North American civil war interesting because the author of it, in a secular and roundabout way, discusses the Lower Astral Black Oobleck, or at least the crux of what in human life is generating this tsunami of yuck. It's forty minutes long, but I found it well worth watching all the way through.

My assumption is that people who run around enforcing Woke language are being ever so busy in hopes that no one will notice them doing bupkis to actually HELP those for whom their liberal hearts supposedly bleed (and no, performing in a die-in hoping for likes on social media does not constitute actual help). Never been able to track it down, but I have a memory from the 1990s PC era of a leader saying he couldn't care less if his people were called Native Americans or American Indians, so long as they could get jobs and addiction treatment services onto the reservations. That was a stunner. From such seeds of skepticism, great forests of cynicism grow...

The comments at the last World Economic Forum suggested that some in attendance would be all right with another Trump presidency. "Woke" was designed largely as a distraction from class issues in the wake of Occupy Wall Street but Trump may now appear as a softer option to elites since progressive thinkers seem hellbent on destroying any and all countries where they reside.

The woke camp now seems to be in the throes of a death drive. Their ideas are losing their luster but all they know how to do is double and triple down. They stretch for greater and greater doctrinal purity even as the world around them collapses - San Franciscans will blame the violent, insane open sewer their city has become on conservatives thousands of miles away.

I think one cause of this is that some of the most powerful progressive left leaders were communist revolutionaries in the 60s and 70s. In the US, members of groups like Weatherman believed that the US was right on the verge of a revolution and that it just needed one more push via "propaganda of the deed." These groups disintegrated as Vietnam ended and their #1 recruiting tool went away. They lingered in the shadows of US culture for decades, quietly infiltrating institutions until they had a president on their side: Obama, who started his presidential run in Bill Ayers's house. In a short span of years gay marriage was won and they realized they had the potential to push farther and faster than they ever thought possible before.

For a lot of these old-school commies, Reagan's "Morning in America" was the heartbreaking death of a dream, and for the next 30 years they didn't imagine they would ever get another bite at the apple. Then Obama gave them what they saw as a second chance to reshape society as they saw fit. The wheels are now coming off of that effort and the flaws of their worldview are evident to all, but this cohort is now in their 70s and 80s. They're not going to have a third chance at this, they can't reconsider their views and if they admit defeat then everything they worked for their entire lives has come to nothing.

It's likely this group would rather crash their society in a final blaze of glory than back down. The elites don't share this view but they have granted the woke an immense amount of influence over key institutions. How it'll play out remains to be seen.
