It does happen. I mean, that's what the whole story of Jonah is about, right? God's unhappy with the situation in Nineveh. He wants to wipe them off the map. But he sends Jonah: hey, tell the Ninevites to repent, or I'll waste 'em. Jonah knows how God works: Gripe. Whine. Let those no-good Ninevites perish. We *all* know that they'll repent, and then nothing'll happen, and then I'll look like an idiot. I'm running away...


But at some point in that story, God's wrath was a sure thing. Until it wasn't.
