Just wanted to say that I've been really enjoying these posts Kimberly, thanks.
Walking the line between Puer snd Senex is a difficult one. Something I've been meditating on recently - if Mercury is Puer personified, and Senex is Saturn, does that make Jupiter the midpoint which embodies both as a benevolent, joyful ruler? And if so, what might be his drawbacks?
I don't know if you've ever seen the British TV comedy Peep Show? (yeah, weird name,I know) It ran from 2003 - 2015, and followed the lives of two young(ish) men, one who typified the Puer and the other who typified the Senex, in a passive-aggressive, scheming way. Based on a few passing references in the series, and some of the other work the series' writers have done, I think they knew their way around the occult and particularly the archetypes shown within the series. It's also very, very funny.
Related, I think, but I had the slightly jarring experience yesterday of listening to what was otherwise a really interesting podcast, where a former neurosurgeon had a near-death experience and changed his whole materialist worldview. After speaking about this and how we are all part of one cosmic mind and shared connectedness for 40 minutes, he then went on a weird rant for the next 20 minutes about how 'we' needed to get out and vote out the Republicans, and how they were apparently trying to steal the November mid-terms (the podcast was from a few months ago), and I was like "where did that come from?!" But archetypes are like that - they just take over people when activated, particularly their Shadow forms. Interestingly, in the morning I'd been listening to a different podcast all about archetypes! It was about a year ago when I read somewhere that they are like human versions of animal instincts that the concept of them all fell into place. It's like a hardwired computer code in our brain "If human becomes pregnant, run 'Mother' archetype", etc. But they are fractal and can combine, so you can end up with the Devouring Mother, who may have Puer attributes, and so on.
I know you spoke about the Devouring Mother archetype a while ago by the way, but I don't know if you've seen the recent Dr. Strange Marvel film? (Multiverse of Madness) I used to quite enjoy the Marvel films, especially Iron Man (and again, you can compare and contrast the Puer Iron Man and his rival Senex Captain America, then how they morph into their opposites over the course of the films, in an example of archetypal enantiodromia) before they got Disney-fied, but this one was directed by Sam Raimi, of horror movie fame, so I thought I'd give it a go. It's remarkably dark for what's technically a child/teenager film, but Scarlet Witch goes on a multiverse-wide trail of destruction to steal the children of an alternate reality version of herself. If that isn't a Devouring Mother, I don't know what is!
