I forget exactly where I read it (I haven't looked at demonological lore in almost a decade now, and am only planning to look into it in light of JMG(!) saying he's thinking demons are involved with the vaccine push), but one of the last books I read on demons mentioned that they will often create the desire they then use to buy your soul. If this is true, it strikes me as plausible that they took Reza Aslan, and used the influence he had to trap others. In fact, it seems to me that they could even have amplified his fear and hatred of Trump before the election to prime him to make the decisions they wanted when Trump won.
Healthy and even remotely sane people do not sell their souls, especially not for partisan politics. So I think all of the troubles we've faced since 2016 is the result of them getting their hands on a small number of people and then using them to expand their influence and convince others to allow them in. Michael Hughes, and Reza Aslan both strike me as early points they used, and I'm sure there are others, but I don't think it took very many people given that so many were already predisposed to hate Trump: they simply amplified what was already there.
