Early Summer 2021 Garden Update! (Help me name my trees)

The front garden: this is my main project this summer. My boxwoods have failed to thrive, so that experiment is over. I’m going to put some hardy perennials in the unoccupied spaces such as catmint, lavender, and Russian sage.





The side garden. Here I have a 5+ year old pear tree that still hasn’t bloomed. It’s a pretty tree though and it is healthy. My yard is almost all full sun — this side area is one of two small shady parts. Cedric the Eastern Red Cedar is doing well, putting on some bulk. As you can probably tell, I am expanding the garden space towards the sidewalk. I hate lawns, that’s why it is my goal to engulf the entire lawn space in perennials. The plants in this area of my garden include hostas, ferns, a catmint, borage, a pink phlox, a white hydrangea, black cohosh, and some ivy.





Rose of Sharon that blooms light pink… stay tuned for that!



Baby maple, 2 baby oaks, and Cedric. Name suggestions?

A pussy willow I got to sprout from trimmings from my neighbor’s pussy willow bush/tree. I call her Saille. (I call the parent tree the same name)

For the baby oaks, one should be named John and the other Michael in honor of a certain somebody :p

And I love that yard of yours, you can feel the vibrancy through the pictures. Do you use that stone circle area for you daily SoP?

Thanks! Name suggestions noted! I don't do the SoP out there (the neighbors think I'm weird enough already LOL) but the feral cats like to breakdance in the center of the cross garden, so I think it lends some good vibes!

The bad neighbor is at work -- on one side, I have chronic maskturbators, and on the other is a very shady "massage" parlor.

It's an interesting neighborhood to say the least, a few thrust blocks to keep you progressing.

(Though at this rate arent maskers labeled as vaccine denialists these days? It's so hard to keep up sometimes).

Yes. I wish there weren't so many reasons to get out. Maskers do face a conundrum: either wear it and virtue signal or go without, which could also indicate one is a Trump supporter! When the mandates were removed, they became confused, like Nazis without their swastikas.

When one's identity is wrapped up in the latest trends, whiplash can't be far behind. I'm sure the "I was vaxxed" tattoos will become the next step for the true believers.

Since you already have a suggestions for the two oaks, I'll offer one for the maple... Wayne. (Maples make me think of Canada... Canada of hockey... and I only know the name of one hockey player.)

I love that. My neighbor (age 9) named the maple Mr. Hamster, so now he will be Mr. Wayne Hamster.

Maybe go with names starting with the combined AE letter? (I don’t know how to type it on a computer, sorry.). Or THE grand old English-hero name, Arthur?
