Wow, that is crazy! Though I have seen some school systems around me, in the more suburban areas, offering an all-virtual option for next school year for people who opt-in.

I am also really concerned here about the movement here to require vaccination for all college students, faculty, and staff. There are, at this point, I believe over 100 colleges mandating this.

The one that gets me is that many of the colleges which mandate the Covid-19 vaccines will not guarantee that classes will be in person. In other words, they're trying to force people to get these vaccines without even making sure that you'll be able to attend the classes. Frankly, I'll be amazed if higher education survives the next year at this point, since it seems like they are undermining everything that makes people interested in attending.....

Well, for us bookworms, access to the library is also a major factor, and most of those are closed! But yes, the social factor is crucial. Or, was crucial before 2020. It's fascinating watching them shoot themselves in their feet like this, but it requires a fair amount of stoic detachment on my part not to get very frustrated at how much damage it is doing.

Public libraries seem to always be terrible. It's one thing to lack the really obscure stuff, but the classics? Surely a public library should at least have those.

I was always extremely happy about the fact that I had access to two university libraries here, which actually meant something. Now both are closed by order of the province, and one is fighting to stay closed. The only reason the other isn't is, once again, because of Quebec: they issued an order declaring libraries an essential service and forbidding them from closing. So now, the bilingual university here is unwilling to fight to remain closed, because they need to be able to recruit Francophone students.

I'm glad for Quebec, yet again: a federal law here in Canada blocks any effort to force employees, or students, to get any form of vaccination under most circumstances. Any effort to change that will trigger a complete meltdown in Quebec's political and chattering classes, and so for now the government won't touch it. But I figure this means we have a year, two tops, since I don't expect Quebec to remain part of Canada for much longer anyway.

I very much support Quebec independence, just as soon as I am out of English Canada: right now they're the only thing keeping us from transforming into a wokeocracy! Of course, once I'm there, I'll probably actively get involved in the secessionist movement. From what I've heard they love it when they can recruit us Anglos, and apparently it's a way to make a lot of friends very quickly.

As for driving the woke out with garlic and wooden stakes, I really wish it was that easy. I haven't tried a wooden stake, but they don't seem any more susceptible to garlic breath than anyone else.

My daughter has been saving up her money for a couple years to go to a summer camp in Quebec when she's in high school (her hobby/passion is languages and she's working on French now). I'm glad to hear that things are a bit more sane in Quebec - but I wouldn't be surprised if she's not allowed to cross the border from the U.S. (either at all or without a vaccine).
