That brings another important factor into play: so what you term as Progressian and what I was calling the upper-middle class clearly sides with off-shoring jobs and other aspects of globalism. That enriches the rich people they work for and they stand to benefit thereby.
Thus your Deplorable middle class or my use of lower middle class would be more in favor of bringing manufacturing back to the US because it increases working class jobs. It's also generally better for the environment since every little thing doesn't need to be shipped to the US from across the Pacific.
I quite frankly think that most Americans in the lower classes would be willing to pay higher prices for things to be made domestically. Things made in America tend to last way longer anyway. And I don't think prices would really skyrocket in that regard because if more small businesses come back, there is still competition at the local level.
