There's a big quotient of people who simply cannot process the depravity of others. There are decent sorts like my grandmother, RIP, who could not fathom how anyone would want to harm a child. These people are so truly innocent, they cannot imagine Hillary Clinton guzzling adrenochrome and being blackmailed for it or shady preschools attempting to draw up the power of Beelzebub by sacrificing a newborn.
I think the mistake of the innocent happens when they presume certain groups and individuals aren't shielding hideous pedophiles. Just because they cannot personally "go there" does not mean all concern about pedophiles and pro-pedophile media agendas should get swept under the rug. In my opinion, the innocents need to get out of the way in these cases and let those of us who can identify human depravity without retching deal with perverts and pedophiles.
I'm a horror writer, so in my case, there is no depth of human foulness I haven't considered writing on paper. I'm glad I don't have to be in charge of punishment or law enforcement under my current circumstances, because I have no doubt I would be perfectly ruthless.
