The thing with Saturn is that he measures everything exactly. There is no mercy, no compassion, no understanding of human frailty; all of those are concepts he simply will not listen to. Of course, this is good for those who rise to the occasion, since those who do what is needed can count on his blessings; Saturn is also a phenomenally good teacher, since he never allows his students to do anything other than their best; and if you earn his respect, you can count on one of the best sources of strength in the universe, since he never wavers in anything.
Saturn then, is far, far more complex than our society allows for, and given how far we've strayed from his virtues, of course we're going to have a tough relationship with the planet. I have a strong sense that what's happened since the 1970s is that Saturn has decided to have the last laugh, so to speak, and since he's well known for his extreme patience, I doubt that he's done with his curse just yet either...
