I feel your pain. Illinois is plagued with the same Democratic machine politics -- we are the ones who produced Barack Obama! Everyone hates J.B. Pritzker, our governor, but I highly doubt he will be ousted in 2022. The opposition is just too weak. Pritzker would need a charismatic opponent on the level of Trump in order to be defeated. No such opponent exists.
If it is any consolation, the governorship doesn't mean squat if the county and school boards are full of the opposing party. When a Republican was governor in Illinois a decade ago, he could do almost nothing because all of the "small" positions were held by Democrats. I'm hoping Illinois will start changing the small positions on local boards first. Only in that way will we be able to turn the tables on our Democratic foes.
