Those things are, of course, not contradictory if you read them right. He wants to reduce the population of *other people's families* and save the climate from *other people's resource use*. His resource use, and his family, are clearly justifiable.
I have three kids, and they are great. But I also don't go around advocating for a reduction in global population ;)
