When I was doing some meditations on money, I realized that most Americans want to be rich (making well over six figures) yet the rich are utterly hated as a class of people. In small towns, the big boss guy with the money who owns everything is usually a kind of barely tolerated pariah. If there was a zombie apocalypse, he would be the first to be shoved over the town wall. In my elementary school, almost everyone was an obscenely rich kid, so the differences did not seem as stark. By the time I got to junior high, those who were mere upper middle class (me) or middle class were looked down upon and the superrich kids ran the school: the teachers kissed their butts.
