This exactly describes my neighbors, both husband and wife (the house I asked about buying in an Ogham reading request a few weeks ago): "Her husband cannot cook, cannot fix the sink, has never built so much as a wooden box, and doesn't know how to operate a lawnmower despite the fact his house sits on a lawn. To top it off, he is recently unemployed and there is no job for him to which to return."

I honestly feel sorry for them. They were both raised with money and don't know how to do a single thing for themselves. The husband is a long-term unemployed lawyer and the wife chose a career heading up a nonprofit - so the situation is made more difficult because they certainly don't know how to live within the income parameters of the career choices they have made. The entire situation is incredibly awkward as they are clearly uncomfortable and self-conscious about the improvements we make at our house (which we do ourselves).

Education is the field where I have the most experience and contacts, as my husband is a former professor. We are thankful every day that he made a career move last summer away from the toxicity of academia. Universities around here have laid off staff, cut professor salaries, and are still looking at gaping holes. Many professors are afraid to teach in person because of COVID, not seeing the big picture that their institution likely will not survive if Zoom is all they have to offer -- and may not survive in any case. And that doesn't even get into the intellectual witchhunts going on. It's a complete mess. I hope the bubble pops quickly and we can start building a new educational paradigm, but my guess is that we'll be dealing with the smouldering ruins for some time.
