The black cat is a former feral from our yard, Shadow Shadilay Sniffles Spazzimodo Steele. The gray guy is his new BFF from our local humane society, Ashley Amore Reed Cockleburr Steele. My husband built them the PVC cat tree.

Cute! Those are pretty long monikers for a couple of little critters! If they are like any of the cats I've known, they won't answer to any one of the names you've titled them with. Many cats are too independent to actually acknowledge their name, though I've heard a few do.

I almost never end up with independent cats, it's so weird. Shadow and Ash are total momma's boys. I named Ash "Cockleburr" because he likes to stick to my body. They also both come when I call them and they know their names. Kiki also knew her name and would chirp when I said it. She would come when I called her as well.

I'm the one who asked about a job on the Ogham post, and have an update: it turns out that the vaccine requirement is a bylaw: the city will, starting next Monday, fine any restaurant that employs the unvaccinated a quarter million dollars per hour worked, per person.

The restaurant owner was extremely apologetic, and said that if I was vaccinated he really needs me, since most of his staff will be gone in less than a week. I'm not, but he's still going to give me training and pay me (quite well) until Sunday.

The realization I had is that I have no future here in Canada, and I need to leave the country ASAP. If I'm still here after November 30, I have no way out, and so I need to reshape my priorities big time if I'm going to find a way out before that deadline....

If so, thank you! This will be really useful for me: I've been trying to learn to sing, and while this is currently no real help, the humming makes sense to me, and I think with practice I can learn a lot from this exercise.

Ogham update

A few weeks ago on Ogham Monday I asked you about taking a trip, and then sent you an update with an over-dramatized account of why it was shaping up to be a bad idea. It turned out to be much simpler: I felt miserable that weekend, for no apparent reason. I mean just cranky to the max. Probably I was just exhausted.

Thanks! I mostly used John Michael Greer's Ogham discussion in his Druidry Handbook and Paul Rhys Mountfort's book Ogam. Most of my insights came from relentless discursive meditations on the Ogham. There are quite a few books on tree identification that are useful when you are looking into making your own Ogham. You are best going with one that features trees native to your area. I also try to make a point of noticing and talking to plants and trees. The trees will often tell me how they would like to be represented when I am trying to relate their symbols to humans and our dilemmas. My book Sacred Homemaking is going to have at least one chapter about learning to talk to non-embodied beings such as dryads (trees), buildings, objects, and places.
