I grew up in a sort of evangelical milieu, and it seemed like it was headed for the rocks by the 90s at the latest. Perhaps it was earlier, and I was too young to notice. Trying too hard to be "cool" as the world defined it (but only achieving cheap knockoff status), while letting go of everything that anchored them to historic Christianity. "Be nice as long as it's not too much trouble" will never be able to substitute for "Deny yourself, take up your cross, and follow Me."

I think the Christianity of our future will be much smaller in numbers, and far more spiritually powerful, in practice. The modern age hasn't produced a lot of saints. I think that will change, and it'll be good for us.
