Re: Cuties

It's funny, I used to see a lot of movies-- went to matinees probably twice month, rented movies, etc. When Netflix first came out I used to think how great it sounded, and trialled their original DVD-by-mail deal. But my income was not reliable enough that I wanted to commit to monthly payments for anything discretionary. And then, for years, I had crappy rural internet and not enough bandwidth to support streaming video. And now, three kids later, I've just gotten out of the habit of movies, and it has no appeal at all. The new ones that come out almost never look like something I'd want to see. So now we check them out from the library, and do popcorn and movie night with the kids once every few months (?)... and it's usually one of three or four movies they've already seen.

We don't have a TV either, and now that we *do* have decent internet... nah. There are a handful of movies I'm sort of curious about? But who has time for that? Now, I find it stunning that there are nearly two hundred million people who have enough leisure time to make a Netflix subscription worthwhile. What did they have to cut out of their life to make time for that?? friends? Housecleaning? Going outside? Cooking food?
