I think the worst thing about TV is that it replaces involvement with other people, friendships, and emotional interaction with a fake-out and a glamour, just as porn inserts itself into the addict's life in place of an actual love relationship. In the case of porn, the image of the actor or actress becomes just as real (and far more interesting) than the actual flesh partner. The addict of TV or porn becomes used to the prefab character who acts according to a predictable script with nothing at stake and nobody to piss off. The screen's characters take over the addict's life and soon enough there are no real flesh relationships left because those relationships were not paid proper attention or maintained. End result: The addict is old, depressed, and alone in the rickety apartment/house/nursing facility without a single ally in the world.
