There's also a compulsion to project the shadow -- leftists do this when they accuse Trump's team of keeping immigrant children in cages, a practice first implemented under the Obama administration. The Right is quite reliable here as well: it's a cliché at this point to hear of the pray-the-gay-away preacher's dalliances with rent boys, or worse, his serial sexual abuse of male children.
