On the "peasantry" side, I have to wonder if the weird "all rich people are pedos" narrative isn't partly A) A way for people to avoid confronting the fact that people they know are pedos (statistically... most of us probably know at least one), and possibly that they know or have a good guess who those people are and they are not doing anything about it. If that's a problem of the rich and powerful, then *I'm* not responsible for reporting Uncle Clyde, or the youth pastor or whatever. and B) A way for people who have been abused (yeah, probably by Uncle Clyde or Mom's boyfriend... not Steven Spielberg), to talk about abuse in the abstract without talking about anything personal. For the vast majority of people who've been abused, it didn't happen on a private island in the Caribbean. Maybe that's something at a safe distance, that can be talked about. Unlike, say, that thing that happened with the teenage cousin or babysitter.

Anger will find a target... and it's a lot safer to be angry at someone far away and inaccessible.
