Thanks for this space, Kimberly.

I also heard the reassuring whispers to just get jabbed, don't worry, it'll be fine. There was also huge pressure from my retired-GP father who became completely fixated on ensuring that the entire family got it and banged on about it every single time we spoke, for over a year. It strained our relationship for a while. Under that duress, I had the first one which was not, thankfully, one of the mRNA jabs (AZ) but after that I said no and just allowed my dad to believe I was compliant. My partner didn't get any at all, and unfortunately admitted it, which became part of my dad's obsession. My dad has mild dementia and a tendency to fixate on things, which didn't help. Now that a previously healthy family member has developed myocarditis after his third injection, the badgering has stopped. It's a huge relief.

Saying that, it does seem that some people are starting to wake up. At a recent supper someone asked me how many jabs I'd had (she was on her 5th) so I took a deep breath and said 'One'. She was shocked and asked my partner the same question and he said 'None' whereupon she admitted that some of her grandchildren were refusing too. Prior to this she was truly one of the Devout. When I admitted to having just the one injection I was prepared that we'd be asked to leave, there and then, but that didn't happen and the subject was changed quite quickly. I can't imagine that happening a year prior.

My dear cousin also refused. She works for the NHS and was prepared to be fired but she held out right up to the last days of the mandate, when it was suddenly lifted because the gov knew the NHS wouldn't cope with the sudden loss of 30k staff. I admire her for holding out.

It's hard to know what people really think because nearly everyone is still too scared to give an honest opinion in case they get piled on. I'd love to know what the people around me really think and hope the time comes where they're confident enough to say.
