The interesting part, I think, is how much the quaxx has unwittingly unleashed the new religiosity. The failure of the quaxx has unveiled the greater failure of the religion of Progress. In the wake of that failure, gods are beginning to catch the attention of large numbers of humans again. Considering Progress was the "god" (again, I think it is mostly demonic and involves the worship of demons) and nearly fully replaced monotheistic gods such as Yahweh and Allah around the year 1820 or so, its death some 200 years later is absolutely horrendous, just as the deaths of Yahweh and Allah were horrible in the WWI/WWII/Stalin/Mao era. Christians are gunning for a revival of Jesus, of course, and because they are Christians they imagine that suddenly Jesus will get the foothold he has not enjoyed since Dark Age Christianity. I think Jesus is coming back, but not in the vengeful or materialist sense that dwells in a great many Christian imaginations. Plus, Jesus is only one of many about to kick down some of our materialist barriers. The Greek pantheon isn't doing too badly, the Norse gods seem to be in touch with some members of our species, and there are all kinds of new/old/weird gods being re-invented all the time like Kek, for instance.
