You have to wonder to what degree the population was infested by demons around the post-Roman era when Christianity was getting its sea legs. Our era mirrors Rome in its decline in more ways than the obvious, is my thought. Perhaps a few hundred years from now, an emerging religion/religions will become popular because of its primo exorcists going around and removing multigenerational curses from victims whose leftist great-great-great-grandparents consorted with demons!
