From what I remember about being Christian, there was the expectation that nothing "supernatural" happened until death, when it would finally be time to meet Jesus. Or Satan, if one went the other way. In this way, Christianity (at least the brands I have experienced, which are Protestant and Catholic) has the same expectations during the lifecycle as atheism. Ghosts aren't allowed. Fairies aren't allowed. Night terrors are figments of the imagination or evidence that Satan has already claimed you as one of his own, either way there isn't much point in talking about them or going deep in an attempt to understand what they are about. Yet look at the early Christians, who lived and breathed magic. These people could encounter a possessed person and throw the demons out of them with a glance. Hildeberg von Bingen's lovely music transcends time with its beauty. She too lived in a turbulent, brutal age -- it's not modernity that renders the world as a boring, gray, flat place we are condemned to until death. It's modern ignorance that does that.
