I think your "argumentum ad plantarum" should be "argumentum ad plantas," even though it sounds dull and flat. The preposition "ad" always requires an object in the accusative, and "plantas" is the accusative plural of "planta," or plant.

I realize this is totally unrelated to the point you were trying to make. Sorry for the distraction.
