I think the other possibility mentioned is Bell's Palsy, which apparently in some cases *can* be recovered from in a few weeks.

I know a lady who had Bell's Palsy and *mostly* recovered after... a year or so? Her face was all sideways like she'd had a stroke, initially. Like GB, it would be really hard to hide. But not impossible to recover from. I understand GB is more likely to leave you with difficulty walking.

One does wonder if they're trying to rapid-recovery the guy by sheer force of medication and therapy, or if they're convening the emergency council to figure out a new gameplan, while the public is still ignorant. I expect we'll find out soon enough.
