I think it's very possible the wheels could come off the American economy in late October a la the USSR in 1990 style. If it does, YIKES. I'll plan on laying low until it blows over. Dmitri Orlov's Reinventing Collapse would be a good book to read to get a sneak preview. Like a bad diarrhea, it is probably what we need to re-gain any form of health. Doesn't mean it won't be painful and messy. My opinion of the stock market is low. It doesn't correlate to reality -- it's so heavily gamed, it doesn't reflect anything that's actually going on anymore.
