In addition to the fruit, you can make a tea from its leaves (which are always plentiful while its growing) which I believe is also supposed to have a mild insulin like effect.
I grew the plants here in upstate NY about 2 seasons ago- from late august till frost in late october, I got a steady supply of fruits. You can tincture the fruits as well.
