It's a good example of what I call an astral pyramid. At some point, I'm planning an essay on astral pyramids -- in short, it's a power structure that seeks lots of recruits at the bottom to keep it alive. Any form of religion has its own pyramid. Suburbia is its own pyramid that features the progress narrative as its engine.
