Hoarding is an addiction like any other. Like other addictions, it may be satisfying for the addict but it is almost guaranteed to be a drain on friends and loved ones. It is also a drain on the unseen ecosystem. In my upcoming book Sacred Homemaking, I point out that an unappreciated ecosystem of "junk" or discarded things happens because those things are taken for granted and neglected. If it has value, prove it by letting it go and sublimating by giving it away. Hoarded stuff that should be thrown away carries etheric larvae, which in turn bring disease, especially among the aged or infirm. If it gets bad enough, the vibration of unappreciated things and etheric larvae open doorways for demons as well or better than any Ouija board.
Since you managed as a backpacking minimalist, is there any way you can find a happy medium between hoarding and stark minimalism, much like any given devout nun or monk?
